A culture of innovation and a passion for pushing the boundaries of knowledge are integral to all activities at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, driving them on a daily basis to challenge existing limitations of science and medicine to create and discover what was previously thought to be impossible. A $2.25 billion strategic plan emphasizing translational medicine provides both a roadmap and resources for the School's efforts. The magnificent new 550,000-square-foot Leon and Norma Hess Center for Science and Medicine places scientists and physicians in close proximity that fosters cross-fertilization of ideas, stimulates progress and encourages creativity and entrepreneurship. Throughout Mount Sinai, intensive collaboration across their 34 academic departments and 22 multidisciplinary institutes facilitates discoveries running from the laboratory through to patient care.

Ranked 15th among U.S. medical schools for National Institutes of Health funding, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai faculty are securing unprecedented levels of extramural funding for their research, and grant dollars per investigator are among the highest in the country. The robust infrastructure supporting scientific advances includes major investments by Mount Sinai in genomics, high performance computing, computational biology, molecular pathology and imaging to enhance their ability to predict, diagnose, treat and prevent human disease.
