In January 2008, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Emergency Medicine Residency received approval from the American Osteopathic Association for 16 positions. The curriculum offered is unique in that evidence-based articles are used on a weekly basis to provide the most up-to-date information to educate the resident. The curriculum provides the resident with the knowledge and skills to rapidly evaluate and treat patients in all levels of acuity.

With the advent of the single accreditation in 2015, the Emergency Medicine Program began the application process of ACGME accreditation and received initial accreditation on April 21, 2016. The program is now a 3 year program and continues to offer the same unique curriculum to the resident. The program continues to grow from 16 residents to a total of 24 residents and has become one of the most respected programs in the area of emergency medicine. The program continues to meet the challenges of training emergency physicians.

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center's Emergency Department treats over 70,000 patients per year, including 2,800 pediatric visits, and has a 25% admission rate, making it comparable to major urban center programs.

Conemaugh’s Emergency Medicine Residency is designed to prepare graduates for American Board of Emergency (ABEM) certification. To support this goal, the curriculum provides residents with the knowledge and skills to rapidly evaluate and treat patients of all levels of acuity.

Conemaugh's Emergency Medicine Program is comprised of in-house rotations in Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medical Services, Critical Care, NICU, and Internal Medicine. Residents also rotate at A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware for Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and PICU rotations.
*Weekly didactic online modules during monthly rotations, based upon ABEM core curriculum. Twenty-four modules per year through self-paced, web-based learning management system.
*Weekly conference with core faculty to discuss cases associated with modules to reinforce didactic modules and answer questions.
*Weekly plenary lecture consisting of invited speakers, special topical discussions or core faculty lectures on topical areas.
*Frequent use of Conemaugh's Medical Skills Learning Center for class instruction, training for procedures, ultrasounds, resident presentations, or Emergency Medicine case discussions.
*Additional lectures including monthly Graduate Medical Education lectures, daily medicine lectures, trauma lectures, and other educational programming.
